This is on the Blue Ridge Parkway and located at milepost 417. Park at the Looking Glass Overlook and walk to the trailhead on the other side of the road. It is ¾ of a mile down the trail, and has beautiful pools and falls to play in.

Blue Ridge ParkwayThis is on the Blue Ridge Parkway and located at milepost 417. Park at the Looking Glass Overlook and walk to the trailhead on the other side of the road. It is ¾ of a mile down the trail, and has beautiful pools and falls to play in.
This one is located in Black Mountain on the Montreat College campus. It is about 1.4 miles in and out, and about 634 ft elevation gain. Excellent views of the area from the top.

This is one of my personal favorites! The 360 view from the top looks out over Shining Rock Wilderness. It is a 2.2 mile loop with 570 ft elevation gain. This one is also accessed via the Parkway and is close to Black Balsam and Devil’s Courthouse if you are up for more hikes.

Sam Knob Trailhead
Black Balsam Knob RoadThis is one of my personal favorites! The 360 view from the top looks out over Shining Rock Wilderness. It is a 2.2 mile loop with 570 ft elevation gain. This one is also accessed via the Parkway and is close to Black Balsam and Devil’s Courthouse if you are up for more hikes.
This hike is located in the Pisgah National Forest and hands down my favorite in the area. It is 5.8 miles out and back with an elevation gain of 1,722 ft. It is strenuous, so bring water and snacks. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking.
***This goes without saying, but please be very careful at the top of both John Rock and Looking Glass. It is a 200+ ft drop to the bottom so please use caution!

This place is a favorite for our family! The Nature Center features flora and fauna native to Western North Carolina. We love to stop by the black bears den and check out the otters, Olive and Obi. They also have 2 red pandas which are pretty cute too.
