I moved to Rouen 10 years ago to study and stayed ever since. It’s a very authentic French city representative of the Normandy region and very well preserved from the second WW. There are many nice and unique places to visit - both cultural, historical, and popular. For instance, there is the Jeanne of Arc church where Jeanne of Arc was executed, the Cathedral where there are luminous projections every summer at night time, the Museum of Arts, and many others. Personally, I love walking in the quais of La Seine and having dinner overlooking the water in one of the restaurants there.

Wandering around the old town of Rouen, visitors will enjoy the historical ambience found in the winding cobblestone lanes, which are lined with maisons à colombages (half-timbered houses). Gothic churches are found at every turn, and many are gems of medieval architectural achievement. Rouen is also well known as the location where Joan of Arc was brought to trial. Tourists can see the tower where this courageous young woman stood before her judges and the spot where she was burned at the stake. She later became a saint, and now there is a contemporary church (the Eglise Jeanne d'Arc) dedicated to her invincible spirit, on the site where she was martyred.

This is a historic city where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. It has a beautiful cathedral and cobbled streets. It also has great fashion shopping with 2 department stores and an excellent food market. On Sundays there is a good brocante market. Many lovely restaurants too. Approximately 30 minutes by car.

Rouen, stretching beside the Seine, is Normandy’s cultured, historic, gastronomic, vibrant capital. Monet’s canvases of the cathedral have made it the best-loved building in town, but many other glories stand out, including fine museums and the church dedicated to tragic visitor Joan of Arc.

Beautiful Cathedral, churches and timbered houses. Visit the rue du Gros-Horloge and see the astrological clock, one of the oldest in France. Musée des Beaux-Arts, in center of the city, has a beautiful art collection including many impressionist paintings.
