The fleet of boats called ‘The Popeye’ are our own State Heritage Icons. Since the first boat was launched on the River Torrens in 1935, the Popeye boat ride from Elder Park to the Adelaide Zoo has historically been a treasured family outing and the boats have also hosted weddings and other events Today the tradition continues and you can still find The Popeye at the motor launch in Elder Park in front of the Adelaide Festival Centre. The 40 minute round trip cruise departs from Elder Park, travelling west to the Torrens Weir, turning around and travelling back up to the Adelaide Zoo before returning to the landing.

The site, on the corner of King William Street and Rundle Mall, is a veritable sugar-pot, tempting locals with its treats and drawing in tourists like bees to honey. The store's doors were opened on May 1, 1915, by company founder and entrepreneur Alfred Haigh, whose interest in confectionery began while living in Jamestown in the mid-north. Today, the store is one of 14 outlets around the nation and the business, which employs more than 450 workers, remains in the hands of the Haigh family. A great shop to indulge or just pick up a meaningful gift.

Steve Grimley owned this office building for a few years and called it home on weekends when he and his family ventured away from the vines. Now it's home to a boutique bottle shop and cellar door, with a friendly corner-store mentality. The walls are clad in recycled timber boxes made by Kindling Furniture and brushed with white typography.
