Beaches

There are so many wonderful beaches to choose from. The main Bawley Beach is usually calmer when there is a southerly wind. You can jump off the Gantry if you are feeling brave. Check out the rock pools between the beaches at low tide- you might see starfish, sea anemones, octopus and even elephant snails and sea hares. There is a path from near the beach toilet block that goes through the bush behind the beach to Gannet Beach.

Cormorant Beach is the closest beach to Bawley Beachcomber (only a minute's walk) and is a designated 'off leash' beach for dogs. Your furry friends will love it! On calm days, there's nice snorkelling along the rocks.

The beautiful Gannet Beach is south of Cormorant Beach. It's fun to walk around the rocky headland between the two beaches, or you can cut through more directly. Gannet Beach is often a bit calmer than Cormorant Beach. On calm days, there's good snorkelling along the rocks at the northern end of the beach. The Flo coffee caravan is located on the headland at the southern end of Gannet Beach.

We have done a couple of walks north to Meroo National Park. There is a lovely track from the car park at the north end of Bawley Beach that leads to Nuggen Point. Usually, you can cross the sand at the mouth of Willinga lake to get to the start of the track, but sometimes the lake breaks through to the ocean – the walk may not be possible if the water is deep or fast flowing. www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/meroo-national-park

There is a free harbour pool at Ulladulla. It is cleaned and refilled on Tuesdays so Wednesday is great day to visit and do some laps. Head to the wharf and continue around the headland south of the harbour. For those archaeological enthusiasts, this is also a great spot for a guided fossil walk (www.gondwanacoastfossilwalk.com.au). There is also a signposted fossil walk on the north end of Ulladulla harbour. If you are a caffeine addict, pop into This Sunday Life on the main drag in Ulladulla. Open 6 am- 4 pm Monday to Saturday. Shop 15, 107 Princes Highway, Ulladulla Some of the best coffee in the area can be found at Maverick. As they put it “we’re a small batch roastery dealing in speciality coffees, and we love it. That’s pretty much it.” The setting is not ideal (next to McDonalds as you enter Ulladulla) but the coffee is great. Open 7.30 am – 1.30 pm (8.30-12.30 on Sundays). 8/171 Princes Hwy, Ulladulla. www.maverickcoffee.com.au (02) 4454 0677 Native cafe is a popular spot with a lovely view of the Ulladulla Harbour. Ulladulla has larger supermarkets (Coles and Woolworths) and many shops.
