The best sandwiches by the beach! Fat sandwiches, too, filled with layers of shredded meat. Plus, it's a good spot to spy celebrities if that's your thing.

The coffee isn't cheap, and it's worth it! It's just one block away, and is a much better choice for coffee & tea than Starbucks. It's also a local business, and the kids that work there are all really cool & knowledgable. Internet access and they don't care how long you chill!

The sandwiches here sell out fast and daily! This place has been here for years, and still retains it's original charm! Seriously, the sandwiches are awesome!

Fairfax (between Pico & San Vicente Blvd.) is home to Little Ethiopa, and there are a few excellent restaurants on this little strip. It's about a 20 minute walk for those who enjoy walking, whilst taking in some unique architecture along the way.

When downtown Los Angeles became gentrified, Little Tokyo residents and business owners moved west to Sawtelle, just west of the 405, between Santa Monica Blvd. & Olympic. It's worth a trip to check out, and is home to some of the best sushi restaurants around! Check Yelp for specific recommendations.

Not only is this an amazing little Greek restaurant, run by a family of burly Greek men (fathers, sons, uncles), but it's also in Vernon, a shady town just south of downtown, and the setting for True Detectives (Season 2). There's a casino and Farmer John factory here, as well. Back to the restaurant, if you like Greek food, you will LOVE this little place. Note that they close at 4 p.m., so plan a lunch date.

Essentials

Western Kosher is an excellent market, and is only 4 blocks away. Everything is kosher, and their selections are fresher than fresh! They do a high volume with the nearby Jewish community, and the store and vendors work together and not by fax like other big fancy markets. They keep hours that fall within their religion. Every night at 7, a local food truck sets up at this market. While there are a number of mexican trucks that get more social media hype, this particular truck is my go-to! I like to go to the trucks where I'm the odd person out, and that means freshness and flavor is just better! Try the papa asada, if you're a meat & potato lover!

For the best ceviche, this market is a must! Traditional Mexican market with an amazing selection of fruits, veggies, and an amazing deli! The freshest selection of raw meats, dark white meat, and three different types of ceviche that is really fresh! There's a tortilleria next door for fresh chips and traditional Mexican breads, with grilled selections on weekends which sell out quickly!

Parks & Nature

It's a paved trail, but a lovely way to spend some time nonetheless. Great old neighborhood with tricky streets that lead to the same place. It's a free activity, too.

I personally prefer beaches north of Topanga, such as Malibu, Zuma, County Line. A great day with an abundance of beautiful stops along the way! Malibu is where blue collar workers and the rich coexist, and have since very early on. Tons of places to shop, eat, and take in the local scenery.

Sightseeing

Located on Larchmont, between Melrose and 1st Street, there are many cool shops and eateries. Though it's lost its charm a bit through gentrification, it's still a lovely boulevard. The Larchmont Village Wine Shop has been there many years, and is a secret famous spot for sandwiches. They serve them until they run out of bread, which means get there early! European vibe and flavor. I love this shop!
