Sightseeing
This area has been a fovorite of ours since the 80's for backpacking and hiking. From Black Balsam parking lot there is a great short hike (5mile round trip) to the top of Sams Knob for spectacular views.
For a day long adventure (10 miles round trip) take Art Loeb for 360 degree, ridge line views all the way to Shinning Rock (A stunning quartz outcropping of Majestic appearence) Then journey back on the Ivestor Gap trail for a flat , easier return making an out and back loop.
