Retford Park was part of the Fairfax families properties. In 2016, Mr Fairfax gifted his historical home to the National Trust of Australia (NSW).Retford Park is a place of great heritage significance .Its European history extends back to grants of land promised to Edward Riley senior by Governor Macquarie in 1821.
As you venture up the driveway the grand Victorian Italianate homestead appears from behind a collection of evergreen & deciduous trees, some very rare & unique. Wander through the patchwork hedged garden and enjoy the many delights . Check for open times.

Here you can get a 'Birds eye view" of the Southern Highlands from the top of Mt Gibraltar .Once a former Tracite quarry, now covered in eucalyptus, with many walking trails, scenic lookouts & picnic areas.

A great bushwalk for the whole family & various levels. A favourite of our family. Every Easter a group of friends would gather at Easter & we would head out along the 13.3klm 4.5 hour walk. The walk follows the original tram way that would haul up coal out of the Joadja valley to meet the main train line. Complete with flat cuttings,steep gradients, steps to climb, a 100m tunnel and a great view of the Nattai Gorge plus more!!!.This is a great way to enjoy the Ausssie bush & spend a few hours breathing in the fresh air.
