In addition to breathtaking views from the road on each side, the summer offers a perfect location for swimming, boating and other water-sports. For the more daring there are several trails in the steep mountain sides of the gorge. Moustier st. Marie is a beautiful village in this area.

This medieval fortified village complete with a draw bridge residing high above the Var river is worth a visit. In the village sits a Gothic cathedral with an interesting Baroque interior. Further if you climb a fortified walkway there is a hilltop citadel offering a magnificent view of the Var valley and the village below.
Here you will also find an historic railway with steam locomotive that offers a ride along the river - Train de Pignes.

Just outside Forcalquier near Mane is this beautiful chateau that is privately owned and where you can enjoy a guided tour at the weekends. Normally it is one of the owners that do the tour.

The house is situated in the old town. In the middle ages it housed a mill for olive oil production. The entrance is from 1, Place Jeanne d'Arc where she stands in the middle of the fountain welcoming you to a special stay in this authentic village.
There is an arched passageway leading to a hall with its original ceiling with wooden beams where you will find the entrance to the apartment. Thick and solid stone walls gives you the feeling of another century.

Cezanne's studio is located in the city where he lived most of his life. The nearby mountain of Saint Victoire was a favourite motive that he painted many times. This is also a nice hiking area with climbs of different degrees of difficulty.
