We make a day trip there every summer. Temperatures are always 10-20 degrees cooler. Mount Mitchell is the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in mainland eastern North America. We love the Balsam Trail hike. Have lunch or try sitting out on the patio enjoying the view with a cup of coffee.

We have hiked there but have never been in the water. It looks like a good place to try. The trail to get to the falls can be tricky so keep a look out for the red circles on the trees.
