Known for its impressive heritage buildings and green rolling hills, Berry is nestled in a picturesque setting. Just 2-hours’ drive from Sydney, it’s ideally located for a relaxing country holiday or weekend getaway. Mountain Ridge Wines can be found in the peaceful town of Coolangatta, close to historical Berry on the South Coast. It is about 15km northeast of Nowra and 8km east of Berry, perched on the Coolangatta Mountain ridge with majestic views to Berry, Coolangatta, Cambewarra and Saddleback Mountains. This is a little further from Wollongong, about an hour’s drive, which is probably the only viable transport from one place to the other. However, it is definitely worth hiring a car and including this winery in your itinerary. Here you can find not only the cellar door, where the wine tastings take place, but also a restaurant and café with daily blackboard specials. The grapes are grown on site and procured into Arneis and Chardonnay, which are available to taste inside the cellar. Groups of five or more people attract a small fee, but it is most certainly worth it. You can dine at the cafe or restaurant for breakfast any day from 9am to 11.30am. Lunch is available from 12pm to 3pm on weekdays and 12pm to 5pm weekends. During lunch hours the cellar is also open. It is best to book if you are thinking of visiting as seating is limited, especially on weekends. For groups of ten or more, pre-booking is encouraged and essential on weekends.

The Links Shell Cove is a unique and picturesque golf course located in the Illawarra region on the South Coast of NSW PLAY LSC NEW Dynamic Pricing at Links Shell Cove Golf Club. By definition, dynamic means “constant change.” At Links Shell Cove, we prefer to view dynamic as “progress.” This process will allow golf rates to be adjusted – both lower and higher – in real-time, based on demand, availability and other changing factors. While this style of pricing may be new to the game of golf, airlines, hotels and now even your favourite sports teams have been utilizing this pricing strategy for years. The true links style course, plays alongside the beach where members and visitors are welcome to enjoy a round. The course has 5 holes adjoining the beach, with a mountain backdrop and great views of the natural landscape. Established in 1897, a decade before electricity came to the town, the Club has the honour of being one of the oldest in the country. Wollongong Golf Club is situated on a magnificent stretch of pristine coastline. Its close proximity to the city and the beach, the fantastic views along the coast and the stunning mountain backdrop, make it one of the most unique golfing experiences in NSW. Wollongong Golf Club has hosted the likes of major champions Gene Sarazen, Gary Player, Bobby Locke and Steve Elkington since the club’s inception. Although Wollongong Golf Club is one of the oldest in Australia, and has just passed a 120 year milestone, the core values and philosophy have remained the same with mateship, enrichment and respect being at the heart of everything we do. The club has hosted many tournaments over the years, most recently the NSW P.G.A. Championships (2009 – 2011) and the Jack Newton Subaru State Age Championships (2014 – 2015).

The Grange's Championship course plays at 6,270m and offers a fantastic experience. The picturesque Mullet Creek winds its way throughout the course coming into play on 11 holes, mostly on the back 9, which creates a course of two contrasting nines. The creek is at its most punishing on the back nine. The outward half is flat and easy walking, with the pick being the two par 3s, the 4th at 164m and 7th at 154m. The gently undulating and more heavily tree-lined back nine presents the most memorable holes on the course. In particular, the stretch from the par 4 12th to the short par 4 15th is superb. The land these holes have been laid out over rolls and dips far more than any of the earlier holes, which makes them more exciting. While the longest par 5, the 529m 13th, requires straight hitting so does the shortest, the par 3 152m 18th. This hole is considered by most to be the club's signature hole and for good reason. Standing on the tee, there is only one thing between you the front edge of the green - the cool, flowing waters of Mullet Creek. There is a short fairway to the left of the water and in front of the putting surface, which is heavily bunkered. This hole is easily affected by wind and anything from a 3-iron to a wedge could be used to find the small, sloping green. The club house offers a modern contemporary feel with a fully stocked bar, affordable brassiere dining that is open seven days for lunch and Friday for dinner, a barbecue area and the award-winning 2 venues at The Grange, for events. Enjoy beverages, lunch, dinner or event facilities whilst overlooking the 10th fairway and beyond to the beautiful escarpment. Or if you require golf apparel, the newly refitted Pro Shop can assist with a range of Foot Joy shoes, clothing for men and ladies, plus an extensive range of Titliest and Cobra golf clubs.

The Kiama Farmers’ Market is held every Wednesday at Surf Beach, located on Manning Street. You couldn’t wish for a more picturesque backdrop for your weekly shopping expedition! The market is started each week by the “ringing” of the bell and runs from 3pm to 6pm when Daylight Saving is in place and then reverts to 2pm to 5pm in the cooler months when Daylight Saving comes to an end. No market trading takes place until the bell has been rung. This is a true farmers’ market that cares about the origin of food and the protection of local growers, producers and makers. A market where kids play on the beach, skim stones across the harbour, fossick in the rock pools or sit on the grass to have an afternoon picnic snack or early dinner. Each week you will find a wonderful selection of seasonal produce being sold directly to you by the farmer or maker. Along with fruit and vegetables, you can expect to find seafood; oysters; local Wagyu beef; honey; eggs; milk straight from the dairy; gelato made from local milk; cider; wine; mushrooms; cakes and tarts; preserves; sourdough bread, street food, ready-made meals… and more!

Bushwalks

Sublime Point walking track is one of the iconic treks of the Illawarra escarpment, and a challenging walk through lush coastal rainforest to the plateau above with incredible scenic views. The steep climb is ideal for experienced bushwalkers and a great nature escape. It is only 800m up (1,6km return) but you will feel like it is much longer! Starting from Foothills road, Austinmer (opposite Ibah spa), the track ascends steeply up the escarpment cliffs, through dense forests dotted with tree ferns and palms. Stop for a breather for some great birdwatching, and look out for yellow-tailed black cockatoos or raptor birds such as falcons and kestrels. About 3/4 of the way up you come to the base of a set of 9 ladders. Believe it or not, this is a relief for your legs as you can use your arms as well. Continue on further until you emerge through a gate and you are at the top! Enjoy a bite to eat or a well earned icecream at the Sublime point cafe while you take in the spectacular views before heading back down.
