City/town information

If you love old houses you will love Mt. Vernon. This town won the "Best of Ohio Hometowns". During the Civil War over 3000 men and boys inlisted and Mother Bickerdyke was a civil war nurse from Mt. vernon. check out the Public square with a statue honoring those men. The renovated Woodward Opera House, the oldest known “free-standing” opera house in the nation. In the same building is The Stein Brewery and BBq. Go on down from the Opera House and you will find the Dog Park fountain. One of my granddaughters favorites! Mount Vernon is the birthplace of Daniel Decatur Emmett, author of “Dixie” and many other songs of the mid-1800’s. Dan Emmett is buried in Mound View Cemetery.
