Marilee and Guillermo have been involved in social movements, art, architecture and design projects since moving to Oaxaca in the early 1970's. Mari has been involved in the women's and environmental movements and has worked in the coast with indian communities in promotion and design of textiles. Guillermo has been a leader in social and artistic movements in Oaxaca and is an avid art collector. Every house in the Casa Olguin compound is adorned with parts of the collection, if something catches your eye, please do enquire as some items are for sale.

They were the first couple to begin to recover and return to building adobe homes in Oaxaca. Their houses have been examples for other people to admire and also choose to build with adobe instead of cement block and brick as was the trend when they arrived. Their homes reflect this deep respect for vernacular design and its practicality.

They have three children and five grandchildren. Most of the family, including your hosts, still live part or full time in one of the five houses in the Casa Olguin compound. If you are looking for a unique and comfortable holiday rental that has an authentic feeling of home, this is the right place for you.
